Singer and songwriter Hans de Booij from Holland recently rented a house for 5 years on the westcoast of the Thais island Koh Phangan.

Shortly after he moved into the new house his dog Annabel, named after his biggest hit, got bitten by a cobra snake in the tropical garden and died on the spot. Hans de Booij was popular in the Netherlands in the eighties with hits like “Annabel”, “Thuis ben” en “Vrouw zoals jij”. In 2008 he left to Thailand where he worked on his comeback on Koh Samui together with Hans Vermeulen (known form the band Sandy Coast and hits like Eyes of Jenny and True love that’s a wonder).

Nowadays Hans de Booij lives on Koh Phangan, a beautiful tropical island in the Gulf of Thailand. Sometimes he performs live at the Jam on Saturdays.

Recent research shows that the island Koh Phangan is not suffering the international economic crisis while the tourism industry as a total, according to the Tourism Council of Thailand, has hit a 49-year low and is expected to decrease by 22 per cent this year.

The number of hotel bookings on Koh Phangan in 2009 increased over 10% compared to 2008.
One of the main reasons for this fact is the continuous popularity of the full moon beach party. Research by major Koh Phangan hotel booking agency PhanganResorts.com also shows that over 85% of online bookings are around this world famous monthly event. Almost 65% of the visitors prefer to stay in or around the Haad Rin area where the party takes place.

Koh Phangan is part of the Suratthani province and is located in the Gulf of Thailand. The relaxing beach life, the beautiful coral reef with photogenic fish and the beauty of thousands of swaying palms attract a lot of visitors to the island. For a lot of people Koh Phangan is synonymous with the world famous Full Moon Party which takes place every month in Haad Rin. The party attracts between 5.000 and 40.000 international visitors every month.
